Donald L. Sexton is a retired United States Air Force Colonel whose thirty-year career reflects disciplined leadership, strategic judgment, and a lifelong commitment to public service. A 1972 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy with a degree in Physics, he later earned a Master’s in Personnel Management from Central Michigan University and completed advanced military education through the Air Command and Staff College, Air War College, and National War College. His training also includes the USAF Fighter Weapons School Instructor Course and the Navy’s Top Gun Executive Program.

Commissioned in 1972, he served as a fighter pilot and commander in assignments across the United States and abroad. His career spanned combat operations in Southeast Asia, instructor duties, and senior leadership roles including Commander of the 64th Aggressor Squadron, Director of Advanced Programs at Eglin AFB, Director of Operations for Alaskan Command (J3), Operations Group Commander at Eielson AFB, and USAF Deputy for Requirements at the Pentagon. He retired in 1998 as a Colonel (O-6).

After concluding his military service, he continued contributing to aviation and national defense. He flew for Federal Express before becoming a consultant, partner, and CEO of AVTECH Research Corporation, supporting advanced aerospace and defense programs. He now serves on the company’s Board of Directors.

He values the traditions, character, and community spirit that define Graham and Young County. As County Judge, he is committed to true transparency, strict adherence to the law, and ethical, accountable leadership. His priorities include responsible budgeting, fiscal discipline, and conducting thorough audits to ensure every taxpayer dollar is used for the direct benefit of Young County residents. His goal is to protect what makes this community special while ensuring strong, stable, and trustworthy county government for future generations.
